thank you coach zorn

i couldn’t decide what to blog about today.  jason campbell was just one of the possible topics, so zorn’s timing was perfect.  thank you coach zorn, you finally did it.  you went bat-shit crazy and benched jason campbell.  the redskins are a wreck and the hammer fell.  too bad if hit the wrong person.  just when it seemed campbell’s value couldn’t get any lower, zorn did investors a favor.  he lowered campbell’s price even more.  it’s safe to say campbell is no longer a buy low.  he’s a penny stock!  and getting cheaper by the minute.  the demand for campbell is gone, only value investors will be investing in him at this point.  why should we invest in campbell?  let’s take a look.

campbell played college ball at auburn, he finished his college career with 64.6% completions and 1.87 td’s for every int.  he excelled at completing passes while not turning the ball over, a trait that he still possesses, 1.41-1 as a pro.  campbell is one of the best qb’s in the nfl and he’s got all the makings of a starting qb.  sound insane?  good, then there’s probably a nice “margin of safety” to go along with the low price.  consider just how bad washington’s offensive line is and remember that poor offensive line play leads to int’s.  the rams used to have a good line, now they don’t.  think it’s affected their qb play?  a scared qb is a bad qb.  it’s not a coincidence that the best performing qb’s have the best offensive lines.  peyton manning would not be nearly as good as he is without a line that keeps him upright and he’d probably be the first person to tell you that.  the redskins have a bad line.  surprisingly, here’s where campbell ranks in a few important categories for the 2009 season…(according to nfl.com)

comp%, ranked 9th with 65.6%, puts him ahead of schaub, rodgers, flacco, cutler, brady, eli, and palmer.

y/a, ranked 14th with 7.3, tied with warner, ahead of cutler, palmer, and brady.

1st%, ranked 7th with 39.3%, ahead of rivers, rodgers, schaub, warner, favre, eli, brady, cutler, romo, and palmer.

sacks, ranked 7th with 14, peyton has 2, eli has 3, brady has 5, warner has 8.

after being drafted 25th, in the first round of the 2005 draft by the redskins, campbell has changed offensive systems as many times as peyton manning has in his entire life.  through the changes, campbell has somehow improved his completion percentage every year in the league, 53.1%, 60.0%, 62.3%, and now 65.6%.  anyone that says campbell hasn’t improved or that he’s not an nfl qb hasn’t looked at the numbers or considered his team.  for his nfl career, he has a completion percentage of 60.5% and a qb rating of 80.9.  he has done this in spite of the team he plays for.  he doesn’t have a true #1 wr or a good offensive line.  he’s on his own.  the people paying him and coaching him don’t even want him.  the front office and zorn have done everything they could to ruin his confidence.  the entire nfl world knows he’s not wanted in washington.

after the game, when questioned about benching campbell, zorn responded, “campbell was not comfortable – this was all about today for jason – this is not a wholesale change (at qb)”.  one reason he was “not comfortable” may be because an already bad offensive line was without left tackle, chris samuels.  zorn admits the benching was just for today.  if that’s true, and there’s every reason to believe it is, then what was the point of benching campbell?  zorn benches his qb during the game and after the game zorn says he made the qb switch just for today.  do you see what kind of crap campbell has to put up with?  do good coacheds do that?  campbell is a pro, he keeps his cool, he works hard, he keeps getting better, and someday it will pay off.  that day will come after zorn gets fired or campbell gets traded, or both.  the deck is  stacked against campbell right now, but with an average offensive line and an average coach, the market will recognize his intrinsic value.  so thank you coach zorn, you’ve given me a great value.

nowhere to go but up

this 2005 autographed rc went unsold on october 18, 2009.  a $00.99 bid + $3.99 s & h would have won this auction.  jason campbell’s price can’t possibly get any cheaper.  now is the time to buy.  i’m buying all i can get.  i’m sorry i missed this auction.  an absolute steal.  would you pay $5 for this card?  remember this card.
